A young man from Punjab’s Budha village near Beas allegedly drowned in a lake in Germany, leaving his family and residents of the village in deep shock. The deceased, identified as Harshpreet, had travelled to Germany around a year ago to reunite with his father, who has been living there for the past seven years.
According to family members, Harshpreet had gone to a lake with a group of friends for a recreational outing when the incident occurred. During the visit, he reportedly entered the water and drowned. His death has devastated the family, as he was their only son and was regarded as the family’s biggest hope for the future.

Speaking through tears, Harshpreet’s mother appealed to the Centre and the Punjab government to help bring her son’s mortal remains back to India at the earliest so the family can perform his last rites according to their religious traditions.
The family has also urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to intervene and facilitate the repatriation of the body. They requested the authorities to complete the necessary formalities on priority to enable the family to bid a final farewell to their son.
The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over Budha village, where relatives, neighbours and residents have been gathering to console the bereaved family. Villagers also appealed to the government to extend every possible assistance and ensure that Harshpreet’s mortal remains are brought back to India without delay.
Residents described the incident as a heartbreaking loss, saying Harshpreet’s untimely death has left not only his family but the entire village in mourning. They expressed hope that the authorities would respond swiftly to the family’s appeal and provide the necessary support during this difficult time.
